For the last eight years Doris has been collaborating with Bristol City Council Refugee and Asylum Services, Refugee Action and Bristol communities from many parts of the globe to create an annual, intercultural arts event to kick start National Refugee Week celebrations in Bristol. The next Refugee day will take place at the usual location, Queen's Square, Bristol on Sunday 13th June 2010.
“Different Pasts - Shared Future”

As always there will be music and dance from many countries, as well as stories, nomadic homes, picnics, mandala making, films, international games, art workshops, Chilean food, Tibetan tea and much more besides. This year again we will have a concert with local youth performances, Tibetan singing, a return visit from Genna Ethiopian Arts who wowed us all last year with their wonderful dancing, the Lani Singers from West Papua, high energy Kurdish dance music from Shanga Band and local favourites Bulawayo with jit jive from Zimbabwe and other as yet unconfirmed musicians. What is confirmed is what a wonderful day we will have when we all come together to meet new friends and share the fun!

The day will be full of information by, for and about Bristol’s refugee and asylum communities. There will be lots of opportunities to meet each other, time to hear gems of music, join in creatively and bask in the sense of harmony and love that happens when people gather together to respect each other and enjoy our differences.

We'd like to thank everyone who comes and makes it such a lovely, happy day.
