In 2010 we will be creating something completely new as Jason Gaines, Jon Hardeman and musical archaeologist Yvette Staelens will be bringing together the sacred Orishas with British folk traditions! We’ve played with the vocal percussion of Southern India, travelled through the Maghreb with its’ ancient Amazigh chants, across to North America for Cherokee and Lakota songs and then down to Brazil and Cuba through the powerful and uplifting songs for the Orishas. We’ve had Tibetan songs, Baka songs from the rainforests of Cameroon, Mandinka songs from West Africa, Inuit throat singers from the Arctic Circle. This year for the first time we welcome Olayo Jimenez, who will be teaching Flamenco song and we also have songs from West Papua with the Lani Singers as well as Funky Jazz Voice with Afra Bell, Jewish Niggun chants with Beth de Lange, Amazigh songs with Amel Tafsout, songs from South America with Camilo Menjura and more besides... We weave a programme of workshops you commit to for the five days and ones you can drop in and out of with guest teachers bringing their special songs. We will have classes for those who can sing already and want to expand their repertoire and classes for the frightened who have never sung before. Singing can also be part of the drumming and dance classes and you learn to do both at once. There are opportunities in the evenings to share your own songs in the famous Doris Cafe open mic sessions. The youth area has some award winning tutors. Songs, raps and poems are written, rehearsed and then performed in the Friday night Youth Area performance. DOWNLOAD THIS YEARS DAILY PROGRAMME , PARTICIPANTS INFO and SPECIAL NIGHTS INFO
